Child & Family

Various child and family development approaches, many of which are based on scientific evidence, can support individual children, adults, and families, to heal and strengthen their relationships.

I am Sarah L. Frederiksen, MA, CAHC, CYT

Founder, Elevate You Well

The Science of Child + Family Development

The science of child development stems from psychology and offers helpful perspectives for understanding how we learn and grow from our earliest years into adulthood. In short, children are naturally dependent on their adult caregivers to provide loving, responsive relationships in which they can feel safe to learn and explore. However, when a child does not have access to such relationships, or supportive environments and experiences, it is more difficult for a child’s common and unique needs to be met, and negative outcomes may result throughout their life. Various child and family development approaches, many of which are based on scientific evidence, can support individual children, adults, and families, to heal and strengthen their relationships.

My Approach to
Child + Family Development

Based on the particular client need, I seamlessly integrate child and family development, Ayurveda, and Yoga in my work with clients. As a Masters-level child and family development specialist, trained in various caregiver-child and mental health interventions and approaches, I guide caregivers, educators, and families through a process of exploration, discovery, decision-making, action, and healing.

I observe and assess the needs of the adults and children and then develop a wellness plan with individualized recommendations to bolster the familial or other attachment relationships.

“When we love a person, we accept them […] exactly as is: the lovely with the unlovely, the strong with the fearful, the true mixed in with the façade, and of course, the only way we can do it is by accepting ourselves that way.”
—Mr. Fred Rogers

Approaches &
Therapeutic Modalities

Recommendations will address the needs of adults and children in the family or education setting, and aim to strengthen adult understanding of and capacity to support the children in their unique development. Your wellness plan recommendations may include, but are not limited to, revisioning the meaning of child behaviors, practicing self-care strategies, and choosing new ways of responding to children. All wellness plans include individualized recommendations based on your unique state and circumstances.
